It’s a new year. 2015. Finally.
Finally, we can put the stresses and worries and pain and fears of 2014 behind us. Right?
I mean, after all, it’s a new year! A clean slate! A chance to start all over again! Right?
While I love the changing years and the newness of January, I realize that closing the door on 2014 does not mean that all our problems get closed behind that door. Many of you have entered a new year carrying broken relationships, withering health, strained finances and more.
Well I’m here to tell you this….the God of the Breakthrough is here.
In 1 Chronicles 14:11 when David and his army went to fight the Philistines in an IMPOSSIBLE battle, the Lord was with them and they WON. David called the place Baal-Perazim, which means “the God of the Breakthrough,” because God had “broken through like a mighty rushing water.” Another translation says He broke through like a flood.
A flood of water is powerful. When a city is flooded, a couple feet of water will pick up cars and move them down a street. Floods have even picked up houses from their foundations and moved them. The God of the Breakthrough is coming through like a flood and moving things that seem impossible to move. Things you could never move on your own.
We make God too small. The God we imagine in our head is too little. So many times, we limit Him. He is a BIG God. He does BIG things. He does exceedingly abundantly above all we could ask or think.
There’s another story in the Bible of Moses and the Israelites wandering in the desert and needing water. Moses is told by God in Exodus 17 to strike the rock so that water will pour out of the rock for the Israelites and their livestock. All the stories and all the pictures I’ve seen since I was a child growing up in children’s church depict Moses striking a rock and a stream of water starts to trickle down the rock.
Do you realize that there were 3 MILLION Israelites in the dessert?!?
Do you know how long a small stream of water coming out of a rock would take to fill a valley to allow 3 million people and their livestock to be supplied with water?
No. The God of the Breakthrough came like a FLOOD out of the rock. Imagine a gushing waterfall that keeps coming and coming until a large valley is full of water….enough water for 3 million people and their livestock. That’s what God did.
The God of the Breakthrough is coming like a flood and moving things, impossible things, in your life.
And like the Israelites, His flood is coming to bring provision for you in the desert place. More than enough. Not a trickle, but a flood.
You’re not alone. The God of the Breakthrough is with you.
