3 Steps to Making Your Dreams Come True

We were made to dream.

Our Father God, who made us in His image, is a dreamer.

A dreamer.

A creator.

A visionary.

It is in our DNA to dream. It is the nature of God in us to dream, to create, to have passion and vision. St. Irenaeus once said, “the glory of God is man fully alive”. This means that our ability to be fully alive is dependent on the glory (or nature) of God in operation in us.

If I could add my own personal interpretation of this statement I would say:

“When the dreamer in us is awakened…

When the creator in us is inspired…

When the visionary in us is revealed…

….Then we can live fully alive.”

Many of you are full of ideas, dreams and passions, but maybe you don’t know what to do with it all. Where do you start?

Some of you are so overwhelmed with today that you can’t even think about tomorrow. Dreaming seems frivolous and you feel like you’ll never get out of the muck and mire of your everyday life.

Let me tell you what God desires for you in 3 John 1:2 – “Beloved, I wish above all things that you would prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.”

Today, you have permission to dream. Dream as little or as big as you want.

And then…

When you dare to be bold enough….

When you are brave enough to start seeing your crazy dreams become real life….here’s 3 steps that will get you started.

  1. Write it.

“Write the vision and make it plain.” – Habakkuk 2:2

What are the dreams you have for your family? Your finances?

What about your health?

Write down what you want to see happen, where you want to be in 3 years or 5 years. Don’t write down how you’re going to do it or develop strategy…not yet. Keep it simple. You could also write down single words that are meaningful to you or are things you need in your life.

For example:

  1. See it.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Proverbs 29:18

Now that you’ve written down some things you want to see, you need to visualize it in your mind. See those things happening in your life. Picture what it will look like. Something that helps me with this is a vision board. I actually have 2 vision boards exactly the same. One is on a bulletin board at home and one is smaller on cardstock that I can carry in my Bible or bag. I even took a picture of it with my cell phone so I have a photo of my vision board with me at all times! You could even use your refrigerator. Just find a place that you will be able to see several times a day.

Now, go find pictures that look like what you want or need. You can cut out pictures from magazines or find pictures online that you want to use. Some of the pictures on my vision board include:

A house (we had been renting a townhouse for years)
A car (my husband’s car was a bit sickly)
A photo of my husband’s kids (believing for restoration with them)
A suitcase and passport (for travel and ministry opportunities)
A tropical island (for vacation)
A thinner, healthier me
Gold coins (financial increase)

Once you have your pictures on your board, make sure you look at it at least once a day. Begin thanking the Lord for those things that He is going to provide for you.

  1. Speak it.

“And God said, “Let there be light” and there was light. – Genesis 1:3

And God SAID…..

There is power in our declarations. Remember we are made in the image of God and if God created the world with His words, our words create our world.

Our church has a declaration we speak every Sunday when we give our offering. At the beginning of 2015, I posted these declarations on our kitchen wall at home so that we could declare these things all week long and not just on Sundays. I am here to tell you that my family saw EVERY SINGLE ONE of those things happen in our personal lives by September 2015!

Here’s the declaration we used for finances or you can create your own with the specific things you need, like a car or a job.

As we give today’s offering, we are believing the Lord for:

Jobs and better jobs
Raises and bonuses
Benefits, sales and commissions
Favorable settlements
Estates and inheritances
Interests and income
Rebates and returns
Checks in the mail
Gifts and surprises
Finding money
Debts paid off
Expenses decrease
Blessing and increase

Thank you God for meeting all of my financial needs that I might have more than enough to give to the Kingdom of God to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Some of you may want to find scriptures on healing to declare. Maybe you need household salvation. There’s a verse for that! There is power in the word of God….speak it!

Write it. See it. Speak it.

It’s time to awaken the dreamer in you.

Don’t let fear or disappointment keep you from dreaming the dreams of heaven.

You were created to dream. Dream big, my friend.

Let’s believe the dream together,

Melissa Cole-Mathieson
In 2004, I became a single mom to 3 kids under the age of 4 and walked through very difficult years of healing from the disappointment and betrayal I felt from a failed marriage. In that process, I learned how to live utterly dependent on God to take care of my little family….financially, emotionally and spiritually. Ten years later, in 2014, God blessed us with an incredible, redemptive gift in a man named Dave who is now a husband and father to our family.
