Prayer Resources

I think a lot of times it can feel intimidating to pray because we think we don’t have the right words to say. Prayer in its simplest form is talking to God. A conversation between you and Him. Just opening your mouth and beginning to speak to God is the first and best thing you can do. From there, you can “learn” how to pray in other ways that are more specific to the situation and also pray using scripture in your prayers. But I encourage you to never hold back from praying with the reason of not knowing how or feeling embarrassed. It is not the eloquence of the prayer that God loves, it is the heart behind it. Whispers of Hope

Beth Moore’s book, Whispers of Hope, was the first resource that I ever used and actually completed. You know what I’m talking about. It’s so easy to have a great idea and not follow it through until the end! At least for me.

This prayer journal, along with accountability from a friend, was the first time in my life that I remember finding that daily rhythm of seeking God. I loved being able to use a pen and write out my prayers after reading the devotional. Finding the rhythm was a fight against my flesh and many mornings I succumbed to the temptation to keep on sleeping. I know this devotional took me more than 10 weeks but I finished it!! And it marks a significant season in life.

Praying the Scriptures Series

Recently when dealing with some major at-ti-tude in our home… I decided to go to my shelf and pull out another book on prayers. This book, Praying the Scriptures for Your Children, was a book that was given to Micah and I many years ago but we unfortunately failed to use it as it gathered dust on our shelf. Then last year, it was recommended to us again. This time from our church. Again, the book gathered dust. But enter at-ti-tude and I thought I’d reach for a different book this time, removing the dust and seeing what it was all about. Specifically in this season, you’ll find our copy bookmarked at page 95, praying for kindness and compassion not just for our children but for the entire family, knowing that our kids’ behaviors are often reflections of our own. (Lord, please help us.)

If you find yourself turning away because you don’t have children or your children are grown, take a second look. Jodie Berndt also has books for adults, adult children, and more.

Power of Praying Series

My first experience with prayer resources has been with Stormie Omartian’s Power of Praying series. I can not remember who shared these wonderful books with me but I remember I was a newlywed. I was given the Power of a Praying Wife book and the Power of a Praying Parent book. I used both books of prayers for my new husband, no matter where I pulled the prayers from. Ha! What I loved about these books is how it helped me to pray over specific needs with scripture. What was most rewarding was when I saw those prayers being answered!
